About Marcos 

Marcos Mena is the guitarist and lead songwriter of two-piece math rock band standards. While growing up in Long Beach, California, he played in a variety of local bands all throughout high school. At age 19, he enrolled at California Institute Of The Arts (CalArts) and received a BFA in Guitar Performance. Afterwards, he completed a masters degree in Music Production from Berklee School Of Music. 

 

During his college years, Marcos toured countless countries with standards sharing stages with acts such as Polyphia, Meshuggah and Tiny Moving Parts. Standards' first album, Fruit Island, was released on Topshelf Records in 2020. After finishing college, Marcos continued to tour with standards in support of their 2nd and 3rd albums Fruit Town (released via Wax Bodega, 2022) and Fruit Galaxy (2024), supporting groups such as Strawberry Girls, Plini and Elephant Gym.

 

Marcos currently has endorsements with Ibanez Guitars, Fishman Pickups and Ernie Ball Strings. Marcos was featured in Fishman's "Learn To Play" series as an instructor. In 2018, Marcos wrote his first E-Book entitled Compositional Guitar Tapping covering his method of guitar tapping. In 2022, he wrote another book entitled The Bedroom Guitarist Handbook covering the basics of recording electric guitar at home. In 2024 he wrote FACGCE: The Complete Guide detailing the intricacies of one of his favorite guitar tunings, FACGCE. Marcos continues to perform live and record with standards. When not touring, he resides in Long Beach, California and stays busy creating humorous online videos, building guitar pedals or teaching lessons.
